Our collections are designed with different types of wool adapted to each product. Thus, our wool family is an extensive one. Since 1879 we have fine-tuned our production techniques, making garments with superior long-lasting qualities. This is the secret behind our unique wool garments with unsurpassed quality and longevity.
All our yarns are combed, as opposed to brushed. This process removes short fibers and ensures a softer feel, a crisp look and very little pilling.
Our wool family consists mainly of Norwegian wool and merino wool. Like all children, each are perfect in their own way. Our oldest family member is Plover. This rugged fellow has been with us for over 80 years – since 1939! Harmony is the newest addition to our family. She has spent some quality-time in Italy before arrival, which have made her quite a bit refined.
You can say all our family members have their own personalities. Here they are:
(Remember: the lower micron, the finer the wool).
Luxurious Italian spun merino wool, the softest merino there is. By exclusively using the finest yarn, combined with our unique knitting techniques, we have reduced pilling to a degree normally not experienced with such soft yarns. Naturally, our wool is mulesing-fee. Garments knitted with Harmony can be machine washed using wool-cycle. (Fiber diameter: 19.5 micron)
Made from 100% fine Norwegian wool from the sheep’s very first shearing. The fibers are short, giving us a finer and softer yarn. The outcome is thin, light and soft garments, while maintaining the brilliance, crimp and longevity for which Norwegian wool is world renowned. Norwegian wool is one of the world’s most animal-friendly textile fibers, due to the sheep’s natural mountain life. Our Norwegian wool comes from sheep known for roaming freely in the vast Norwegian hillsides while grazing in natural pastures. To make it machine washable the Heron yarn undergoes a revolutionary new wool treatment using natural non-toxic salts. Machine wash using wool-cycle. (Fiber diameter: 30.5 micron)
Husky is a super soft, thick, and yet remarkably light yarn. Husky provides for light garments with a chunky, handknit look. This yarn is air-spun. Every fiber end is blown into a polyamide core in the center of the yarn. This makes the yarn more durable than traditional soft yarns. Thick merino wool is prone to pilling. By air blowing the wool fibers into the core, this merino yarn can be knitted with minimal pilling. The outcome is super soft and chunky merino wool sweaters. Naturally, our wool is mulesing-fee. Garments knitted with Husky needs to be hand washed.
A super soft and luxurious baby alpaca and merino wool blend for an exclusive, handknitted look. Alpaca is a South American relative of the camel. Alpaca wool adds lightness and silkiness to the blend, while keeping the sheep wool’s great strength and warming qualities. This is a soft, warm blend with an extremely high wearing comfort, providing beautiful, sophisticated garments with an edge. Naturally, our wool is mulesing-fee. Garments knitted with Kyoto needs to be hand washed. (Fiber diameter: 22.5 micron)
A proprietary blend of wool produced in Norway from Norwegian sheep. Due to this yarn’s unique qualities and consistent popularity, this wool quality has been a part of our family since 1939! Norwegian wool is one of the world’s most animal-friendly textile fibers, due to the sheep’s natural mountain life. This yarn offers an authentic look renowned for its uniquely crisp look and longevity. Garments knitted with Plover needs to be hand washed. (Fiber diameter: 33 micron)
